| ((If you have a character joining the hunt, please bring that character into this thread. Only those characters who are hunting are needed for the time being. Characters such as Amaranth, or Sage Ghost (for exmaple) may see off their families, if they wish.))
Corona stared eastward, watching as the first burnt orange rays of morning sunlight made their appearance over the horizon. It was time. He took a deep breath, inhaling the damp morning air and smiling to himself. Corona had always liked mornings. He found the pre-dawn hours to be the most peaceful of the day, when some lay down to sleep, and others woke... when the morning dew settled and pale swamp mists rose from the muck to settle themselves around the deciduous trees like garlands. The scents of nocturnal prey were still fresh, but fading, and slowly but surely new scents took their place.
He looked around, watching as the first members of the Black Mountain Pack began to emerge from their dens. He raised his head and howled, welcoming in the morning, and signalling the beginning of the great hunt.
Summit Shadow pushed his way from his den, eager to beat Whispering Owl to his beta's side. The rivalry between the two wolves was intensifying, but so far it did not apparently resemble anything harmful. If anything, it pushed both the delta and the elite warrior to improve in all they did. Summit Shadow stood proud and strong, eagerly looking out into the forest, ears swiveling from side to side while his mouth opened up to taste the freshening prey scents. Corona affixed a stern look on him. "Are you sure you're ready for this, Summit Shadow?" he questioned, "I don't want your rivalry with Whispering Owl to become a problem when the pack needs to work together to survive. This hunt is critical."
Summit Shadow's ears lowered briefly. "With all due respect, Corona," he said rather stiffly, "You do not need to remind me of my duties. I will serve this pack to the best of my abilities, now, and always. My dealings with Whispering Owl are my own and will not affect my performance."
"See that they don't," Corona warned, "I won't hesitate to return any pack member to this camp who proves to be a hindrance to the hunt."
----------
Stone Fur was the first of his family members to awaken. Quickly he went about getting everyone up, ready for the day ahead. His focus, however, was on young Cedar. He nudged his son. "Cedar, quickly, wake up," he urged, "The hunters are gathering, and you have to gather what herbs you can carry to go with them." Without waiting for a response he began to gather a few things for the trip himself, some pultices, berries and seeds... Little things Cedar would be able to use to immediately treat any minor affliction the hunters might suffer. | |

| -Rowan and Sparrow-
Rowan had been awake since before the sun had dawned. His deep red eyes shone in the darkness as his father moved to wake the family. As Amaranth awoke, Rowan moved from his position where he slept near the entrance of the den; another one of his family protective habits. He moved to the furthest back of the den, where Sparrow always took her sleeping spot. The eldest nudged his youngest sister, who awoke groggily at first, but then moved quickly. Sparrow, though she was the smallest and youngest of the family of five, she had so much energy that it could sometimes be frightening.
Sparrow licked Rowan in greeting before she went over to her mother, bidding her goodbye before she went to her father as well before she sent herself launching herself out the den entrance. Rowan bid her parents farewell before he followed Sparrow, who was further ahead than himself but he didn't seem overly concerned.
-Silver River and Corvus- Corvus had been awake since the dark had been dominant in the sky. The bird marked wolf made his way to a large tree with large but partially exposed roots. He leaned down to look into the hole that was hidden away in the roots. Smiling lightly, he took one of his paws and slapped it against the roots, a sort of knock in a sense. A broad grin crossed his face and his orange eyes shone as Silver River poked her head out from the den, looking wide awake. Actually, Silver River looked a bit more awake than he felt.
"How long have you been awake?" Corvus asked as Silver exited the den, shaking her white and grey pelt.
Silver raised an eyebrow at him, smiling lightly. "A bit longer than you, I could hear you pacing through the packlands."
Corvus couldn't help but chuckle. "Well come on then."
Silver River took the lead, heading ahead of Corvus. Not that Corvus minded, Silver River was the true hunter between the four wolves that Storm Raven had raised. The white huntress approached Corona and Summit Shadow, smiling lightly at her older brother, catching the last bit of the conversation about the rivalry between Whispering Owl and Summit Shadow.
"You know, he should be here shortly, I believe I saw him when heading here."
Though Silver River had heard the last bit of the beta and her brother's conversation, she didn't seem to let that particular fact on. There was faint smile on her face but it was a small little thing that didn't reach too far across her face. Her eyes though were bright, eager, ready to hunt. Storm Raven had been a very good hunter, and Silver was no different; given that Storm Raven had trained her.
Corvus followed behind Silver River as Sparrow came flying into the camp, with dust flying behind her. Rowan followed at a trotting pace behind Sparrow.
-Whispering Owl- The large white and orange wolf stretched as he exited the den. He headed in the direction of the gathering hunters. He was easy to spot, given his coloring and size.
He approached the group in time to watch Sparrow sprinting with all haste to the gathering with dust trailing behind her. "Good morning"
Whispering Owl nodded to the wolves gathered, including Summit Shadow. The delta had never let the rivalry between himself and Summit Shadow get in the way of either his duties or his job in general. Whispering Owl had always maintained a quiet respect for the wolves around him, Summit Shadow included.
Turning his head to Corona, his blue eyes questioning. "So, our direction? I believe we had touched on south yesterday?" (Just guessing here) | |

| MudSpider
The muddy brown pelted brute had been awake only moments, and was still shaking the cobwebs from his head, when Corona's howl echoed through. The sound was enough to snap him out of his sleepy state. The muscular Warrior hurried from his den, a simple underground one that was just big enough for him alone to sleep in. Dirt fell from his pelt as he hurried through the trees, jaws splitting in a yawn as he went, and slowed to a smooth and slow trot as he entered Camp to joined the group. A glance was cast to Sparrow, a nod given to her as he greeted her first,"Morning." he then looked to Whispering Owl as he presented his question. As he began to wake more and more, readiness began to replace grogginess.
Hailstorm
The Alpha had once again spent the night with Sage Ghost. Her own den was becoming laced with spider webs due to her daily absences from the place. Corona's howl awoke her immediately and her black and grey head snapped up. For the first split second, she thought of danger but then realized it was dawn. The hunt was starting. With a wide yawn, Hailstorm eased to her paws..careful not to disturb her grandmother..and tip toed from Sage Ghost's roomy and odd den to join the crowd. "Good morning all." she said in a sleep-raspy voice. She cleared her throat and looked over those who were gathered,"I shouldn't have to tell you that you are all to obey Corona's every instruction. Good luck everyone." Hailstorm then turned her vivid orange eyes on Corona,"We'll be waiting eagerly for your safe return." she said softly before turning and slowly making her way back to Sage Ghost, whom had begun to stir. Her voice was faint as she entered the den and began to talk quietly and calmly to the Elder wolf. | |

| Shining Skybird
As the sun rose over the horizon, and with Corona's call that signaled the gathering for the hunt, Shining Skybird opened her soft blue eyes. As she rose her head, her eyes still squinting as she convinced herself to wake, her mouth opened wide to let out a big yawn. As she rose to her paws she could sense that some of her bones were getting creaky as she aged. She let out a long, but soft sigh as she had begun to realize her age as of late, but she still didn't let it slow her down.
After she stepped out from her den, she steadily made her way over to the gathering spot of the hunters. She sat quietly at the edge of the group once she saw that Whispering Owl was busy consulting with Corona. She dared not to disturb him at this time. If he saw her, he would come to say goodbye. At the very least, she would see her son off for the hunt.
Swift Storm
Shining Skybird was not the only one in the family that had come to see off the group. Swift Storm emerged from the shadows to stand behind and just off to the side of his mother. As always, he held his stoic gaze, barely even twitching a muscle as he stood by. He would be staying behind to defend the pack should it come under attack, but it was a role he personally preferred to hunting. Whispering Owl had made his way up to become Delta, while Swift Storm remained behind as a pack member. Yet he relished the opportunity to prove himself as a fighter and become an elite warrior, if anything, to prove he could be something. The darkness that remained locked inside had always made him feel...different, like he didn't belong. He had always stayed hidden in the shadows, focusing on becoming the warrior he was and what he wanted to become. His day to shine would come...someday...and he would make himself known. | |

| ((Oh hey I just want to make a suggestion that we have only one person play the intended prey. Or else I fear that things can get confusing if everyone plays a little bit here and a little bit there. Plus it could be interesting when you can't control the prey! I would like someone that doesn't have a character in the hunt...but I think just about everyone except Heavens does. So...Heavens? Would you like the honors?)) | |

| "Good morning all.""I shouldn't have to tell you that you are all to obey Corona's every instruction. Good luck everyone.""We'll be waiting eagerly for your safe return."
-Whispering Owl- Whispering Owl was momentarily distracted as Hailstorm woke and addressed the gathered wolves, his orange tipped ears swiveling to catch her words. The delta scanned the faces of those gathered, setting his eyes on his mother and ever-stoic brother. He looked from his family to Corona before he spoke.
"Excuse me a moment, Corona. I will be right back."
The delta moved away from the gathering, heading over to his family. "Hi mom, hi brother. What are guys doing here, you didn't have to come out you know?"
-Sparrow- The small black and grey wolfess shot MudSpider another devilish grin, as she had the day before. She was small but full of energy, able to run circles around some other pack members without too much trouble. Standing to place a paw on MudSpider's shoulder; (which she had lean up slightly to do, mind you. She is that small.) she pushed against him, making a sort of 'shaking' motion as you do when trying to wake someone up.
"Wake up you big wolf. We haven't even left and you're already tired!"
Sparrow was of course teasing, as she often did. No one could say that Sparrow was not a lighthearted little thing, always trying to make others smile if she could do so. Even Rowan was subject to her humor, and had cracked a grin a few times every so often. It had been rumored that Sparrow had actually been able to get Rowan to laugh hysterically for several minutes before stopping. (Though this rumor had not been confirmed as of yet.)
-Rowan- Rowan on the other hand, looked towards Sparrow and MudSpider's interaction with a look that could burn through someone's soul. He held his growl. It was no secret that MudSpider and Hailstorm had courted in the time before the young alpha had taken reign. While Rowan did not have anything against MudSpider, as Sparrow's big brother, he was immediately suspicious. The last thing that Rowan wanted to do was pick up the pieces of Sparrow's heart if MudSpider chose to break it because Sparrow would not take it well.
Amaranth had named Sparrow not only for her size, but also for her lightheartedness and general demeanor. Sparrow was not a wolfess that could live with a heavy heart for a long. A broken heart would change little Sparrow, and not for the better.
Rowan would allow himself to be damned by the Spirit of Death and Destruction before he ever let that happen...
-Black Stag and Storm Raven- She had insisted. Damn him for having the soft spot for his mother the way that he did. Black Stag was now escorting and sometimes allowing himself to be leaned on as he walked towards the gathering hunters. The walk had been slow, snail slow. And truth be told, Black Stag loved his mother dearly; as all of her children did. But even in her old age, her stubborn nature had only seemed to grow stronger with each passing season. She did not waver and she did not compromise as a mother and in what she wanted to do. Storm Raven had insisted on seeing off the hunting party, whether it involved waking up before Corona had or not.
Storm Raven could not the hunter quite as well as she should've, but she make out shapes, the colors and a few details. Scents told her much more than anything else. Sitting down not too far away from where Whispering Owl was bidding his family goodbye, Storm Raven watched the newest generation of hunters and hoped that they would be as successful as the hunters that Storm Raven had worked alongside in her youth.
-Silver River- Silver River honestly hadn't been saying much, keeping her nose out of other people's conversations as they happened around her. She looked around, noticing the wolves that were coming to bid the hunting party goodbye. Among those was Storm Raven. The white and grey female smiled brightly, turning and trotting to her mother and eldest brother.
"Mom, what are you doing here? I thought you would have had a nice sleep in today?"
Storm Raven smiled and chuckled. "Well, my daughter. I have always been a hunter and though I may not be going with you all I would like to see the wolves that will take up the position that the hunters of my generation used to occupy."
The elder chuckled once more. "A scraggly bunch you are."
Silver River gawked at her mother as Storm Raven burst into a laughing fit at her daughter's face. Storm Raven continued laughing aloud, before it died away into a chuckle.
Black Stag chuckled, the laugh rumbling lightly in his deep chest. "She actually insisted on coming out here. And dragged me with."
Storm Raven 'whapped' her son's back with her tail. "And with good reason, you are strong and you make a good pillow; like your father did."
Black Stag rolled his eyes lightly, chuckled all the while before he looked to Silver River. "Best of luck. Just don't get kicked and I think you'll make it out fine. Tell Corvus and Summit Shadow the same if they don't come over. Corvus looks like he's lost inside his own head again." | |
