[Pyrite] Snow is Rolling In... Empty
PostSubject: [Pyrite] Snow is Rolling In...   [Pyrite] Snow is Rolling In... EmptyFri Mar 16, 2012 1:35 am

The dark grey clouds up above did not bode well. Pyrite sighed as the snow began to fall, his reddish coat a stark contrast to the dull grey and browns that made up their territory. He was the youngest of the Cougar Clan so far. No cubs were expected from any of the females in the Clan so Pyrite wasn't exactly expecting that to change anytime soon.

Pyrite was watching the wolf lands far below their mountain home. Many of them were running, frantic. He wondered what had them in such a scurry this morning. It was snowing but that usually wasn't that big of a deal. Though, looking in the direction of the giant tree that they used as their burial grounds; Pyrite could see a small dark form in the distance that didn't move at all.

'Ah, so that was it.' Pyrite thought to himself. Someone had just died.

His suspicions were confirmed when the pack gathered to dig a grave and bury the wolf.

The rusty cougar stretched a moment, getting the kinks out of his muscles before he slowly padded along, looking for Matron Seraph or someone else of higher rank. 'There has to be something that I can do.' Pyrite thought to himself with a smile on his face.

Though the Clan was rather disconnected, with them being cougars and naturally more solitary; he was grateful that Seraph had accepted him. Though why she accepted a then skinny cougar like him who was a goofball and cracked jokes was almost beyond him. His mother had even admonished him on more than one occasion to not be such a goof. To which he had replied "And be like Thorn, all business and no play?" Pyrite's mother would usually shake her head but smile. Her son was so different from the other cougars that she'd met before. He was a goofball and a gentle soul. He didn't like to hurt other creatures, it didn't seem in his nature.

Pyrite smiled at the memories of his mother as he continued to silently pad along. She'd always been there for him and accepted and loved him for the cat that he was, not what other would've rather wanted him to be....

Seraph had been up higher along the ridge, well above the shelters and dwellings. The grey clouds had drawn her up, making her want to see how bad the storm might become. The grey had mingled into black far to the east. Grimacing, she knew that if the clouds didn't break up, the snow would get serious.

She picked her way down the path, leaping areas of scrag that might sent her into a slide or a tumble. Stopping near her own cave, she watched her small clan move about. All of them looked wary, glancing at the sky, speaking to one another in worried tones. Seraph felt oddly at a loss. It was snow, she couldn't change that. But times were hard enough without worrying about a blizzard.

Continuing on, she passed her dwelling, descending to meet the others. If nothing else, she could bring some bit of comfort and encouragement. Looking up, she squinted her good eye, recognizing Pyrite making his way up another path. His face was thoughtful, and she wondered what the young one was up to.

Pyrite did a bit more daydreaming, mostly about his family and a few of his friends from when he had been a cub. It was strange to watch him daydream. He clearly wasn't paying attention, but he rarely faltered in his steps. Small snowflakes had fallen and settled in a faint layer on his back, resulting in him shivering lightly and then shaking the troublesome snow off.

His blue grey eyes seemed to come back to reality and he just then noticed Seraph coming down from the ridge and he a bright smile crossed his face as he bounded towards the clan leader.

"Hey Seraph! I was wondering if there was anything in particular you wanted me to do today?"

The young cougar continued to grin, his blue-grey eyes bright and eager, ready to go. He was an eager young cougar, always willing to do as he was told. Though truth be told, Pyrite feared being kicked out if he didn't prove himself a worthy member of the clan. He was the youngest, he did what he could but he wasn't like the older members...

"No, Pyrite, I can't think of anything in particular. The Hunt isn't for another few days, and the young are being taken care of. Why? What's dancing about in that head of yours?"

Seraph studied the young male closely. She was still trying to understand what made him the way he was. Pyrite was nothing like the rest of her clan, but she generally chalked that up to his being from the outside of it. She had to supposed, too, that not all clans were in the position hers was; with prey dwindling and wolves, literally, underfoot. Still, she had come to appreciate his sense of humor and, often-times, cub-like behavior when he was taken with the mood.

"No, Pyrite, I can't think of anything in particular. The Hunt isn't for another few days, and the young are being taken care of. Why? What's dancing about in that head of yours?"

The rusty reddish young cougar looked none the diminished in mood when Seraph mentioned that she didn't really have anything for him to do. In fact, his smile only seemed to grow brighter and his eyes even a bit... mischievous.

"Oh, there's nothing dancing in my head, Matron Seraph. That would imply there was something in my head to start with!"

Pyrite grinned more as he swept up some of the snow that had already gathered, sweeping it towards Seraph's chest before he bounded away. While everything was not exactly wonderful with the situation of the Clan, it seemed that Matron could use a bit of fun. Something to distract from the stress.

The young cougar grinned as he spun in a circle a moment, kicking up snow before looking at Seraph almost expectantly...

Seraph merely looked at Pyrite through her good eye. The young were always bounding with energy, and it made her feel old. She shook her head, then used her foreleg to swipe the snow clinging to her front. As much as she'd like to frolic, there were things that had to be done.

"Pyrite, while I appreciate your enthusiasm, it would be even better if you let yourself focus it on someone else. Onyx, perhaps? He could use a bit of snow dropped on his snout now and again."

She shook her head again. Onyx was the closest thing she had to a true rival in the clan, and while she didn't like to openly make it known, sometimes it was nice to put a little pressure on the Hunt Leader.
