Sundawn’s kill (Meo, others welcome too)

((OOC: Set a week and half after the Sage Ghost's passing))
Location: 20 miles from the west border of The Black Mountain Pack.
Time: 10:15 am. Temperature, cold –10 degrees Celsius (14 degrees F) clear sky.

Snow. Everywhere snow. So far the warm yellow eyes could see of a young black, light red white and grayish wolf. ((mouthful to describe him for having more than two colors, while a pic of him says it all.))

Sundawn Looked and sniffed around to find something eatable, just as his tummy growled. The feeding on only small prey, for the last couple of weeks is showing its toll on the pup, being skinny, less energy and now also snow. It seems like Mother Nature is punishing him hard for the mistakes he had made in the pasts. Right now the only thing what was on the mind of the pup was food, and just not a little bit of it. Allot. Only the problem is that he needs to catch it first.

Pushing on to plow through the snow, he suddenly caught a faint smell of a deer. Putting all his senses on sharp alert, getting an energy kick he thought he didn’t had and started to track the scent, which got stronger and fresher as he got closer. A short while later he spotted a lone deer, with no other of its species nearby. Crouched down, he tried to get as close as possible without alerting his target. Calculated that he was close enough for an assault on the deer, he leaped out of his hiding forward with bared teeth. Only by the unlucky growl of his stomach, that the deer cocked his head to see the charging wolf and started to run.

Sundawn growled back in response for being betrayed by his very own body. Quickly recovering, he went in pursuit of the deer, as it was not its intention to let it escape. The snow slowed him down, but he was determined to let it not get away and to take it down whatever it takes.

As time progressed both mammals started to show some fatigue. The pursuer kept pressing on, getting little by little closer, till he saw his moment to take a daring pounce on the side of the deer, using all his weight and energy to floor it down into the snow. Scratching, biting where he can and not letting go. Keeping on with inflicting damage, till the deer stopped with struggling, he went for the kill to end the suffering.

Just as he started to feast on his kill to fill his growling stomach, twitched his whiskers as airwaves brought him multiple scents of wolfs! Pausing with eating as he remembered what happened a month ago, bringing him an unpleasant shivers, trying not to think about it, he went back to eating, but his tail flicked nervously to and fro.


Location: 5 miles inwards of The Black Mountain Pack west territory border.
Time: 10:55 am, temperature not changed.

He was out on the hunt when the icy cold wind brought with it the scent of blood. Mudspider's head snapped up, ears pressing forward as his nose twitched at the scent. He went on alert, hackles rising some, as the most likely possibilities went through his head. Either one of his own pack members had made a kill, or an intruder on their territory had. Mudspider hurried on, now following the warm scent, and soon enough came upon the sight of an unfamiliar young wolf devouring a small deer. Mudspider's lips lifted as he stepped towards the stranger on Black Mountain lands and snarled loudly in his direction.
"You're trespassing on claimed land!" he barked aggressively with another snarl following. The closer he got, however, the more information he was able to acquire. The wolf was young, perhaps a year in age, and very malnourished. That being seen, Mudspider quickly realized that the young male was no threat. Even if he became aggressive back to Mudspider the young fellow had no chance against him.

While enjoying the meat from his freshly kill. Sundawn had hoped not to be discovered by any pack member from the territory that he had invaded by accident, or well not till he was finished and full.

His ears perked up on the incoming sound of a loud snarl that made his way, followed that he was told to be on land that was claimed. The body of the young male wolf tensed, but also showed signs of being scared. Picking up a fight was the least thing on his mind, besides he did not even got the energy and strength for it, as he had burned it all up from catching this deer and the lack of food. His tail stopped with moving and slowly got tucked in between his hind legs.

Sundawn looked up with a blood red colored muzzle as his ears shifted back in a submissive posture and while chewing firmly on a juicy piece. His yellow eyes were studying the older light brown with dark parts, till he finally swallowed his food. “S-sorry, it wasn’t my intention to invade your land. I didn’t realized it, until it was too late.” He said softly, in the hope the male would forgive him and wouldn’t call for the cavalry, that is if he didn’t had done it all so.

The young one wanted back to eating, but on the look and aggression of the other one kept him from doing so. So he began to clean his muzzle from the red juice.

MudSpider peered down at the young male, one ear cocking as he spoke. They stood there in silence for a moment as MudSpider considered what to do about this young skinny wolf, but after a moment decided he was telling the truth. MudSpider eyed the kill the young wolf made, then looked back to the other wolf. He gave a curt nod before he spoke,"Come with me, and bring your kill. We're going to meet Alpha Hailstorm. She'll decide what to do about you." he said sternly, though his voice had lost the aggressive edge to it. MudSpider trotted the few steps to the dead deer and firmly grabbed one already cold leg in his strong jaws and began to drag it off towards the Campsite of the pack, making a large dragging blood-smeared imprint on the snow as he went. Even if the young male decided to bolt, at least MudSpider had the kill to bring back to the pack and he could gather a few other packmembers to go in search of the young male just to be sure he had left the territory. All, of course, if he ran, which MudSpider doubted he would.

Time looked to come to a stand-still as both males stood there in silence, looking at each other, even the noises around them seemed to stopped. The thin young male finished licking his muzzle clean, while he held his tail low. Unsure of what MudSpider’s call would be, he hoped for the best.

An ear perked up as the packmember spoke on a less aggressive tone. Sundawn couldn’t believe it, for that he wouldn’t be chased off from their territory or that the other would attack him from invading their land. Instead he was asked to help with dragging the deer to the camp and to meet the leader of the pack. I hope that she is also tolerant like this one. Thought the young starving male, as he knew that some Alpha’s could be unforgiving and would rather have your skin for killing a pray inside your land, without any chance to defend yourself.

“Okay.” Barked the young one softly “Thank you kindly sir.” Sundawn took the other cold leg in his yaw and helped with dragging the carcass to the camp. However the strong smell and tasty skin of the deer, let his stomach growl for food. Even while he has had eaten some, it wasn’t enough to calm down his hunger, but he had to resist it, to not to start with chewing on the leg of the deer with it got dragged, as he recalled the eating order of the packs ranks, he would be probably being on the end of the list to eat, or not at all, as he had all eaten some of it.

As they dragged on the dead deer, Sundawn couldn’t help to keep his tail still and had to wag it slighty. “What do you think what she would do to me?” Sundawn asked between his teeth “I’m Sundawn.”

For awhile they walked on in silence, MudSpider's mind working as he tried to think of what Hailstorm would be doing at the moment. Ah well, if she wasn't nearby surely Corona would be and he could take care of the trespasser until she got there. MudSpider's ears tilted back when the young male spoke and he grunted before responding.
"Really don't know. Likely she'll question you, she can be harsh sometimes but she's not terrible." Not like those in the past. he thought silently to himself. He glanced back when the fellow gave him his name, and he responded in return,"My name is MudSpider." Ahead, the pack member could see the Campsite of the pack and he sped up just slightly. To his luck, Hailstorm was already in Camp and seemed to be talking to Wind Feather. Mudspider dropped the deer leg and looked back at Sundawn.
"Wait here." he said softly before turning and taking a few steps towards Hailstorm and Wind Feather. It seemed that whatever they were talking about was not simply idle chat, but of more importance and so MudSpider hung back for a moment as he waited to be addressed.

"I'll send a couple pack members to scout the southern territory, then. Thank you, Wind Feather." Said Hailstorm to the Spiritual, who'd had an unclear vision that she suspected might be of a chance to make a large kill that could feed the pack for several days. She wasn't sure of the exact day or animal that it was. Only that it would be soon as there was still snow blanketing the lands and that the time of day would be early morning..something she noticed in her vision from the angle of the sun..and that it was a huge herd of prey animal.

Wind Feather nodded silently and quickly left, leaving Hailstorm to look over to MudSpider and tilt her head. "What do you need, MudSpider?" she asked curiously.

Mudspider took a few more steps towards Hailstorm and motioned with his head back to indicate Sundawn,"I came across a trespasser in the territories. He took down a deer, I found him eating on it. He's scrawny, young...and I wouldn't doubt that he had not realized he had crossed pack borders. He says his name is Sundawn."
Hailstorm stepped to the side to look past MudSpider at the young male, whom stood next to a head and somewhat eaten deer carcass. Good, at least he'd brought the kill with them. She glanced to her pack member before stepping past him and going up to Sundawn. She peered down at the skinny young male. In his condition and his posturing let her realize that he definitely was no threat and his age made her think he was inexperienced.
"Do you have a pack, Sundawn?" though she could tell immediately that he was a lone wolf, no pack scent clung to his fur.

Sundawn focused on the path in front of them, he titled his head slightly towards MudSpider as he answered his question, paying attention so that he could prepare himself for what to expect. “Okay. Thank you for the info MudSpider.” Replied Sundawn muffled.

The dragging of the deer seemed to get heavier for him. Possible from losing energy and strength, but then again he had eaten very little so that explains it. Lucky enough for him, is that he didn’t had to carry it all by himself. Looking forward he saw the campsite appearing and was glad that he didn’t had to drag it much longer. As his ‘partner’ went a bit faster he had no choice then to do it also as he didn’t want to come over as weak or being already tired.

As they got closer, he saw two wolves talking to each other. One of them would properly be Hailstorm, but which one? Sundawn gave a nod to in acknowledgement that he would remain on his place by the deer, as the brown tricolor wolf went to talk to the Alpha. Seeing one wolf departing it, became clear that the other one is the Alpha of the pack. On the body languages to see of them, he saw that MudSpider spoke about him and what he had done.
Sundawn Tried not to look at them directly and just looked around the surroundings of the camp from his spot, examining possible escape routes, out of the area if things would take a turn for the worse.

Seeing suddenly that the Alpha came towards him, Sundawn hung his tail and head instinctively low in a submissive stance, looking down, as she looked him over, studying him. The young male looked up at the chocolate brown, black and gray she-wolf, not making direct eye contact, but just looking over it. “No, Alpha Hailstorm. I don’t have one. Used to have one a few moons ago.” He answered calmly but with some nervousness in his voice. Waiting for the next question to be asked.

Hailstorm did not let any hint of her thoughts show as she circled him once more, then stood in front of Sundawn and peered down at him curiously. The Alpha cast a glance to the deer that they had dragged it, and as she thought her breath puffed out before her face in icy clouds...the only sound at the moment.

"Sundawn is it? .... Would you like to be a part of The Black Mountain Pack?" there, cut right to the chase. The young wolf had potential. He'd brought down a kill all by himself, then bravely followed a pack wolf deeper into the lands to meet the Alpha instead of trying to run. Of course, he wouldn't get in just like that. She had an idea to test him, but first she'd wait to see what his response was to her question.

His eyes followed her while he didn’t turned with his head and held it low in respect. The young male was somewhat nervous as had no clue of what she would do. I hope she wouldn’t not attack me or send me away without a proper meal. Sundawn thought, as he saw the icy clouds. She was thinking alright of what to do with him, that was what he had figured out, and that she had examined him from all sides.

Sundawn gave a nod that she said his name correct, then both his ears shot up on the offer of to be a member of their pack. Huh? What? Did I heard it clearly? Did she just asked me to join The Black Mountain Pack? Sundawn thought as couldn’t believe it! First he entered their territory followed by killing a deer there and now out of the blue an pack offer. It sounded too good to be true.

After a short silence for him to think it over he replied calm while his tail wagged happily “Yes Alpha Hailstorm. I would like that, to be part of The Black Mountain Pack.” At least by this way he was assured of food and survival, or else he maybe would not last this winter, for being weak. Also it would be nice again to have a pack, then roaming around scraping food together endlessly.

Hailstorm nodded curtly and shot a glance to Mudspider,"Find Silver River, Mudspider." she said to the packmember, whom nodded and immediately trotted off with his nose wiggling as he picked out the Elite Hunter's scent and began to follow it.
Hailstorm looked back at Sundawn and sat her bottom on the ground,"Sundawn...before you become a member of the pack I want you to go on a pack hunt. I have received word just before you arrived that there is a rather large herd that is going to pass through the southern edge of the territory soon. I'm going to put our Elite Hunter, Silver River, in charge of the hunt and I want you to participate fully." perhaps it was time to show Silver River the recognition she deserved. After all, she was the only Elite Hunter the pack had...and in truth Wind Feather had not finished telling Hailstorm of her recent visions when the Alpha had noticed Mudspider milling about nearby and dismissed the Spiritual and she wanted to hear the rest of it.

Watching Mudspider setting off to find one named Silver River. The young male looked back to the leadster, who took a seat in front of him and told him what is going to be expected from him before he could be officially a member of the pack. That is, if this is the only thing needed to be done.
Sundawn stopped wagging his tail when the female sat down in front of him, while he stood, unless being offered to sit down and paid attention to her instructions. Giving a nod in in acknowledgement, even he wanted to object against it and started to mouth a ‘but’ as he wiggled with his body only to rethink over the order and said the following: “How many others will accompany the hunt?” As it wouldn’t do him certainly any good to start already to refuse an order. After having that said, he scratched intensely for a few seconds behind his left ear with his left hind leg as he found it in his opinion a bad idea but kept that for himself.

It was not so that if it would be a large group that he could be lagging down and do only a small amount of contribution work. It was more for what tactics could be used, as he has some knowhow of that. And then there was also that he would be hunting with total strangers!

At least he had shown that he could do it on his own with the dead deer next to him. But a group hunt and anything else that in requires teamwork is different, as others depend on you and carefully following orders. After a few breaths of cold clouds and silence he said confidently “I shall do my best to help them.”

((Sorry it's taken me so long to reply x.x Zeroki made a new thread that takes place some time after this, how about we just say that they went on the hunt and Sundawn got accepted? I replied to Zer's thread and said that a bull elk had been taken down.))

((Its okay, dun worry about it. I shall look at the new thread of Zeroki and trying to figuring out the best way of bringing Sundawn in.

Only a question about it for after the hunt. Is an other wolf taking him in, or is he just thrown into the deep and needing to do all the things on his own.

If i know the answer I can make a post reflecting on the last week.))
